How to insert a Scleral Contact Lens

To successfully insert your scleral lens, adopt a specific posture. Gently lower your chin towards your chest while maintaining a downward gaze. This positioning aids in proper lens placement.

As you bring the lens closer to your eye, utilize your fingers to gently control both your upper and lower eyelids. This ensures a smooth and controlled application process. With a steady hand, apply gentle pressure to place the lens on your eye. The sensation of the saline solution will indicate the lens’ proximity. Continue applying pressure until the lens is fully seated on your eye.

Once the lens is in place, carefully release your grip on your eyelids. It’s common to experience a blink reflex due to the initial coolness of the saline solution. To mitigate this, consider warming the saline before filling the lens. This can be achieved by immersing an unopened vial of preservative-free saline in warm water.

By following these steps and incorporating the optional saline warming technique, you can enhance your scleral lens insertion experience.
